How Do I Discover What The Lord Has For My Future?

God has good plans for you. They are not plans for your failure or defeat. They are plans to prosper you. Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV) says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.“  Sometimes it takes us longer to discover the plans God has for our lives. We sometimes seek for Him in all the wrong places. If we’re thirsty and living in a drought, we attract thirsty people, ones without our best interests in mind. Because we can find ourselves in DRY places, we sometimes chase after men, women, drugs, or pornography (just to name a few) to get our thirst quenched, only to realize we’re still not satisfied. Or maybe some of us have been told that we can’t do something great, and we have started to believe the lie of the enemy over our lives. Well, truth be told, we have all been in dry places before, but we know that the Word of God is True and Alive. The Bible says, in John 7:38 (KJV), “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

What about those of us who live in the world of “I can’t?” I can’t because of fear, anxiety, no confidence, doubt, depression, limitations and lack of faith and excuses, which all creates negative energy and wrong thoughts. These are the emotions that hold us back, limiting our minds and more importantly, limiting God and the things He wants to do in our lives. Down on the inside of us, there is a well where living waters flow. If this is true, and it is, why are we so trapped and stuck in our past emotions? Did you know that unprocessed emotions, in the body, become stuck, affecting a person’s entire system? In Isaiah 43:18-19 (ESV), it says, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Let’s allow God to do new things in our lives. We’ve all heard the saying, “If you want different results, you have to do things differently!”

How do you get unstuck?  Start by meditating each morning and aligning yourself with God, asking him, “What should I be doing today to help others?” You need to take the focus and attention off of yourself. According to Isaiah 61:1 (ESV), “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” As you serve and help others, God will also help you.

Discover your passion and what motivates you. Take notice of the gifts and talents God has given you. Start a dialog with Jesus and make Him a part of every decision you make. Looking internally, you will need to get to the root of your emotions, asking God to show you the matters of your heart and what’s holding you back from stepping into the awesome future He has planned for you. All problems and situations have solutions, but it won’t be an overnight fix. Paula White, a well-known pastor, once said, “If you want to change your way of living then you must change your way of thinking. If you want to adjust your life you have to adjust your heart.” Did you know, what controls your mind controls your life? The qualities of your mind are the qualities of the life you live.

Have you ever heard the saying, “There may be a mile long of things I cannot do, but there is a mile longer of the things I can do.”? Focus on less on the negative and more on the positive.  Now that you have received the keys to success and letting go of the fear of unresolved issues in your heart, let’s ask God what He has in store for your future.  Matthew 7:7-11 (ESV) “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
