Power Thoughts: Grab Hold of Something New

Advertisements

A recent article called “How to Relieve Body Pain After Climbing a Mountain” states, “Sometimes hiking lovers are called robots because it seems that they don’t feel anything after long hiking hours. Truthfully, the reality is different. Burning calves, hurting knees, shaking legs… That’s the reality of a person who just got down after climbing a mountain. If you like mountain climbing, you may know how it feels when you return from your trip. The first thing you do is search for ways how to reduce your body pain. There are some really effective tips to get rid of body pain.”

Whenever climbing a mountain, most people want to stop when they hit an area of resistance. However, when we hang in there and do not give up, we build incredible strength and endurance from climbing them. Many mountains try to hold us back from where God is calling us to. One of the significant hindrances that keep us from moving forward is fear.  It seeks to keep us from reaching the highest mountain and to achieve our destiny, but we have to remind ourselves: His power can move any obstacles that stand in our way so that we can evaluate and excel in our life.

In reality, our belief system sometimes creates mountains like the beliefs of “I can’t” or the expectations that others portray onto us like “you’re not good enough.” In reality, God has given us everything we need to live in abundance and to have an “I can” attitude in life. Thoughts of doubt and negative doubtful people will cause you to lose focus and possibly stop you in your tracks, but always remember when this happens you have the power to take control of your life and create your destiny.

“Don’t let the pain of your past, bleed into your present and poison your future.”-Fairest Hill

Although it’s difficult to stop holding ourselves to old beliefs, old religions, old thoughts, and old decisions, it’s essential to be open and receive the new things God is doing in our lives. If we continue to hold on to the past, we may never evolve into our future. It’s hard to forgive people of the things they try to do to us or have done to us, but we have to forgive and not allow these things to take root in our heart. The good news is Jesus is not expecting us to rely on our strength to forgive a person because that’s the hardest thing for a human to do. Therefore, we are to give it to Him and ask Him to help us to forgive. It’s a spiritual thing!

We all fall, but falling is not what we should continue to stay focused on if we plan to move forward to live a life full of purpose. So, the truth is without purpose, things feel meaningless. “Falling down is part of life. Getting back up is living”- Anonymous.

What are you willing to let go?

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 {NIV}

We all want to grab hold of something new, i.e., relationships friendships, or a new career, but we may sabotage it by giving into a repetitive negative behavior pattern.  One relationship after another is not working out, emotional manipulation, playing the victim, withdrawing from others and criticizing. With these types of toxic emotions, we risk the effect of feeling, peace, hope or the joy Jesus has to offer us when we have the faith to believe in Him. When we act to deal with these types of bondage, we begin to find positive and healthy ways to step into something new, and that is the authentic you!

We learn from our imperfections, then we brush ourselves off and get back up again. It’s time to press reset, it’s time to complete the process, and it’s time to close the door to the past. It’s time to receive your healing, evolve and accelerate to the destiny, plan, and future that’s desperately waiting for you!

Power Thoughts: I “Believe” I Can Fly

Advertisements

There is no denying life’s tough sometimes. However, what do you do when you have kicked, screamed, cursed, slapped, pressed, spat, pushed, fought, cried, fell out, acted up and acted out and angry at God because you feel like it just can’t happen for you? I have learned that you have two choices when doubt enters into your mind you can either adapt it as your truth or “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV.

On the other hand, when a person believes in oneself, they can think and imagine themselves walking through open doors, able to fly, able to soar, and their state of mind begins to transform and create a shift that makes them believe good things are going to happen to them and through them.

According to Wikipedia, “I Believe I Can Fly” is a 1996 song written, produced and performed by singer R. Kelly, from the soundtrack film Space Jam. Although Kelly has had two number one songs on the pop chart, “I Believe I Can Fly” is his most successful single. This metaphor opened up even the minds of the ones who never believed in themselves before. In other words, it made people genuinely transform their thinking of how they should view themselves even if it was for a short faze. They could picture themselves “flying,” soaring, and walking through opening doors.

Consequently, it all starts with the images and pictures in mind; if you could only imagine the good life and future, God has planned for you. See, it’s not about what you can see with your natural eye, but what you cannot see, and that’s where faith comes into action. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith, we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.”  Hebrews 11 {NIV}

It’s easy to believe in something when you have evidence to back it up, but what about when you don’t have the evidence, or you don’t see the plan, purpose, and destiny God promised? Does that mean that God is a God that lies or does it say we are a people who can’t show “faith” as small as a mustard seed without allowing doubt to slip in because we have decided not to keep our choice solid as concrete regardless of what the natural eye can see? “It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth.” Mark 4:31 {NIV}

In many cases our most significant challenges are our self-concepts of self;, in other words, we worry so much about what others think about us or what others have that we cannot wait on God to give us what He promised us. Therefore, we allow doubt to creep in and stale the moment we have been waiting on God to move to only have to wait all over again to build up the mustard seed of “faith” and turn it into action.

For me, I limit myself on social media. Why? Because most of the time the posts are not real, and besides I don’t have time to view each photo that pops through my Facebook or Instagram feed. By not doing so it helps me to focus my creative energy and make things happen by implementing small—yet powerful— changes in my life.

For instance; have you ever watched a sad movie and began to tear up when something tragic happens and then start to laugh when something funny happens? Well, imagine having thousands of friends going through your social media feed, and you learn about each person story on top of your hectic day. It would pretty much drain you of your time and energy leaving you feeling depleted, and unable to figure out what’s the matter with you or why you are not satisfied or grateful for what God is doing in your life.

Subsequently, think about what’s deep inside you and what type of person you want to be, the lifestyle you want, the house you desire, and the location you want to live. Ask yourself, “how does the person I like to be, do the things that I need to do to get the results I need to accomplish?” I believe doubt begins to appear when we start to think we have to know “how” things are going to happen for us instead of just accepting that things are going to happen for us.

In my opinion, our biggest downfall to crippling our faith is that we need to be in control of the “how.” How is it going to happen or how is God going to do it?  In all honesty, “the how” belongs to God, and the “believe” is our part.  God will never fall short on His part. We have to make sure we show up with our mustard seed faith and without any wavering doubt. “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11: 24 {ESV} I believe God will give you the desires of your heart as long as it aligns up with His “Will” for your lives.

Finally, everything the Lord does for us is accessed through faith. Faith is what brings the things God has provided for us from the spiritual realm into the physical realm (Heb. 11:1).  Are you ready to let Jesus handle the “HOW”? If so, it’s your time to believe you can fly! It’s your time to believe you can touch the sky (think about it every night and day, spread your wings and fly away). It’s your time to believe you can soar! It’s your time to believe you can walk through those open doors! I believe you can fly; I believe you can fly! Do you believe you can fly?

Power Thoughts: Lights, Camera, Action!

Advertisements

According to a scientific study of the human mind and its functions, immediately upon awakening, some of us have trained our minds to reflect on our past events. Furthermore, our thoughts continue to live in the past by thinking about painful and hurtful events instead of being in their present state. Therefore, we find ourselves moving backward instead of forward by rehashing our past mistakes; We replay old scenes of tortured memories, rethink thoughts of us not meeting work targets or desired goals, we fester over whether we are a good spouse, we regret eating that cupcake last night or our overall diet, or we hover over the fight we had with a family member at the previous cookout recently. Some of us, instead of worrying about the past, perseverate on thoughts that create worries that, 85 percent of the time, will never actually even happen.

What are the famous cue words from a Hollywood camera crew? “Lights, Camera, Action!”

Many of us love working in the spotlight. Also, many of us want to be in the spotlight but have yet had the opportunity to get there. Moreover, they are some of us who prefer to work in the background to make sure that everything that’s in the spotlight, i.e., stage performances, works accordingly to plan.

Can we talk a little bit about the “Lights?”

Whenever someone has stepped into a higher position, whether it’s pastoral, leadership, supervisor, management or anything managing people, they move into the spotlight whether they want to be or not. Once they have taken on the responsibility to lead God’s people (and yes: even if you’re in a workplace, it’s still God’s people), they have to be positioning executives to make thoughtful decisions about their organization’s mission and goals, and appropriately allocate resources to achieve those directives. Valuable leadership skills include the ability to delegate, inspire and communicate effectively.

For me, I have always been in the background, even in a management position for over 16 years. My comfortability was in the environment of working with clients over the phones until settlement day. However, when God called me out to be a Group Leader at the church, it never crossed my mind that I now would have to work in front of the scenes. Now, I’m not only worried about what I do, but what I don’t do too. I worry about when I’m not praying or when I’m not fasting. I think about when I let my thoughts run wild and when my children think I’m crazy. I wonder about if my husband ever wants to sell all the real estate, retire and move away and leave me, when business is not working according to plan, and whether or not the new medicine is causing migraines so terribly that it’s trying to steal the gift of writing that God has given me.

Believe me; as Christians, we feel as though we struggle with finding peace and hope at times. Cindy Trimm says, “There is a direct correlation between the quality of your thoughts and the quality of your life. What you think determines who you are; it determines what you are, where you go, what you acquire, where you live, whom you love, where you work, what you accomplish, what you read.”

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellences of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” {1 Peter 2:9 ESV}

Can we talk a little bit about the “Camera?” pexels-photo-66134

Although I’m in the spotlight, let me tell you how I’m going to help create the scene for the portrait to change the direction of my life. James Allen wrote in As a Man Thinketh, “All that a man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts.” This pushed me to reflect on what I’ve been thinking about for these last couple of weeks. It all of a sudden hit me: the new medicine prescribed for my migraine headaches had given more side effects then I had hoped. As a result, it affected my ability to think, write, teach and barely communicate for the past couple of weeks. I am here to tell you that the enemy will try to go as far as causing complications through newly prescribed medicines and their effects on your relationships, both family, and friendship.

Ironically, and something worth noting is that my office visit, at which I was prescribed the medicine, wasn’t even about migraine headaches, so some doctors don’t listen. I honestly am not even sure of what it was for in hindsight… perhaps it was due to the tension in my shoulders and neck. What I am sure of, however, is that the next step is to conquer it!

“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.” {2 Corinthians 10:3-6 ESV}

Can we talk a little bit about the “Action”?

To this end, for me, being a writer is incredible, but I must go before every reader before they read anything I put my name on. Every supervisor has to meet with the CEO, director, and management of a company before meeting with their employees when introducing a procedure, or a new product. Pastors have to communicate with leaders and staff members before the congregation. In other words, what my family fails to see is that I’m taking every lick they didn’t get when they didn’t follow the procedures. I go before God in prayer on their behalf because I understand the spiritual warfare we’re facing. God chose me to be a warrior, and for those of you who are warriors, then you know the things we encounter. It’s watch, as well as pray. It’s not just watching for what you see, but for what you don’t understand and things that are in the spiritual realm. The hard part is when you have to try and balance knowing that with the family, who thinks you’re not fun and that you’re an introvert who always watches Marvel movies.

With that said, everything that you do is in your “action.” Nothing happens without putting forth action. You can set forth 50 business plans, and nothing will happen without…

However, one vital thing you should keep in mind is that you can start your day or even your night with something that is guaranteed to cover you and your family throughout not only the physical realm but the spiritual realm… That vital thing is worship! Sometimes we can’t understand why we have to go through the pain, hurt, or process. We struggle to understand why our hearts have to bleed with pain. What I have learned though is that I’d rather be broken and on my knees in the presence of the Lord in that secret place rather than be torn and lost where no one can reach me spiritually.

Our purpose is to worship the Lord Jesus Christ! Don’t miss this principle. The power for change is in your worship. The ability to change your marriage, to have a successful business, ministry, prosperity, divine healing for your health is in your worship! When you employ this strategy, you activate an anointing that brings all the elements surrounding your life in divine alignment with God’s purpose for you!

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” {John 4:23 ESV}

“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”{John 4:24 ESV}

“Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!” {Psalm 95:6 ESV}

Stuck Between the Wait & the Promise

Advertisements

When you are stuck in the middle of life, it can feel like an unpleasant, unpredictable and mysterious scene that’s being replayed over and over. You’re the actor, and the audience are the people inside of your little bubble. Sometimes the feelings of uncertainty can be staring you right in the face; however, the only thing you’re certain of is that if you don’t keep moving forward, you are soon to get stuck right in the place you promised yourself you would never return to again.

For many of us, feeling stuck or not knowing what your next move should be can be a very scary and self-critical place to be. Sometimes the barriers of worry, unbelief, doubt or mistrust can leave you feeling hopeless. In this season, I find myself in the middle of nowhere, but yet I continue trying to walk on the water, keeping my hope and faith on the One above. One thing that I know for sure is that whenever I’m writing blogs, I find myself going before everyone that’s reading them as though I’m predicting my next move or experience in life.

With that being said, as I started this new journey of being self-employed, I heard God call me out and say “Take the step of faith by stepping out on the water”. After I took the steps, I felt things begin to happen and a shifting took place. I started to move in the direction I believed God was calling me too. Many spiritual gifts that I had not acknowledged or that I had neglected were being released, and I actually felt like I was walking on water. My faith was rising, and the creative side of me was flourishing so much that I was amazed by what God was helping me create. But then, all of a sudden, I started to feel abandoned. I didn’t feel Jesus walking alongside me anymore. I started thinking, “I feel like Peter when he took his eyes off Jesus, and he began sinking.”

“‘Lord, if it’s you,’ Peter replied, ‘tell me to come to you on the water.’ ‘Come,’ he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’”— Matthew 14: 28-31 (NIV)

During the time that Jesus was right by my side, I had faith in Him and things were moving; I felt secure. When I didn’t feel Him, however, I started to rely on my own strength and doubted that the promises He made were actually for me. I started to doubt if I was really hearing Him.

Can I tell my story, and be real for a moment?

When I laid face down and cried out to my Daddy, I asked Him why I was going through this process of not knowing where my next client or my next paycheck was coming from.  I heard God say, “You had faith to step out on the water, but now I want to know if you’ll trust me.” I thought, ‘Wait, What? God, trust you? I don’t have time for this… I have bills to pay.” I wondered why we needed to go through a demonstration when He already knew the answer; He’s God, and He knows everything. In reality though, what could I have done but wait and trust Him? I knew that I refused to come this far and this close to the promises just to turn back. Now I am constantly thinking, “Although it’s not easy Lord, I’ll trust you!”

In the Bible, it tells us a story of how Paul and Silas waited on God and how they were attacked by a crowd, beaten and thrown in jail. The jailer put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks…….About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. SUDDENLY …… there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.-Acts 16 (NIV)

So now I am at my suddenly…….Since then, and continuously today, NO bills are going unpaid. For years I operated from a standpoint of “I knew when I was getting paid and which pay period covered certain bills like clockwork.” However, I believe God is breaking me out of these worldly structures, plans and disciplines by teaching me to trust in Heaven’s economy and not the world’s economy. The longer I wait patiently to see what God’s next move is for my life, the more trust, love and humility is working through me for my good!

“And we know that in ALL things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”-Romans 8:28

I will not only pray for myself, but for all of you who are reading my blog today. I want to encourage you to wait on the Lord and be of good courage because your SUDDENLY IS COMING! Sometimes, it may seem as though He’s not listening to us, but I promise you that He hears all of us. He feels our pain, our hurts, our frustrations, and even our loneliness. As I wait on His promises to manifest in my life, I’m learning how to trust Him more and more.

Someday I will look back over my life and remember He’s international, and that He did it for me again and again! If He did it for Paul and Silas then, My friend, He is worth the wait, and His promises will never return to Him void. God’s power is limitless, and He’ll break through for you and me too!

Power Thoughts: THE RECKLESS LOVE

Advertisements

Has there been a moment in your life when you felt forsaken, unappreciated, unloved, misunderstood, like odds were against you to succeed or your circumstances were just too much to handle?

“Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? O, my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, but I find no rest.” “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” – Psalm 22:1

Who is this God that sent His only Son to cover our sins? Who is this God that knew that we would hate, beat, bruise, spit on, and crucify His Son and yet, He would still have an everlasting, neverending love for us? Who is this God that knows we can’t EARN IT or do anything to DESERVE IT? Who is this God? He is “LOVE”!

Although we sometimes feel the weight of this world on our shoulders, instead of worrying and carrying our own burdens, let’s consider giving them to the One who has already paid the price for us. We were never meant to carry or handle anything alone. Sometimes, in the midst of life’s painful situations, we make quick decisions and try to patch up the pain that was caused. However, there’s nothing we can do to eliminate the process of pain. Trying to do so only creates a bigger mess, and when we combine that with mental torture, a more painful path to destruction is inevitable.

Why do our minds work against us instead of for us?

I have learned that the main place the enemy will attack is our mind. If the enemy can mess with your mind and get you to believe that no one loves you….. no one cares about you…… no one likes you…… no one wants to be your friend…… no one wants to hire you…… no one wants to help you …… everybody’s out to get you…… everybody’s laughing at you…… you’re too fat…… you’re ugly…… then you start feeling down and depressed. Our emotions begin to go up and down all because we’re focusing on the wrong things, destroying our emotions and feelings. “This person hurt my feelings, and that person did this to me.”

How long will we play that tune in our minds?

Well, let me give you some good news! WE belong to the Highest, the God who calls us ambassadors of Christ. The reason the enemy tries to make us believe those LIES is to get us to believe them as “our truth” about ourselves, only to have us abort the plan and destiny God has for our lives. And, he’ll go so far as to try to convince us to take our own lives, but we don’t have to give in to the enemy’s tactics. It’s so important to get in right connection with God and pray that He will bring the right people along that will hold us accountable. We need other people that will help us get up when we don’t feel like it or help us to push like we’re giving birth to something even when we don’t want to move forward.

For me, when I sat back and told my self-talk (Crash the Chatterbox) to shut up, I tuned my ear to hear God speak to me. God asked me to write, and I knew that all along, but never felt like doing it. Soon, every time I would reach out to people, I would hear the same thing over and over again: “you should start journaling.” So I made the decision to start writing. In my heart, I knew God was going to use me, but I didn’t want to have to face the pain of my past nor be on a platform to tell my business. However, according to Romans 8:28, “And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.” ….. He would use it for my good, but don’t think for one minute that I haven’t felt like giving up on this.

There are bigger things that God has planned for me. Blogging is not just a passion, it also gives me freedom from the things that still may be in my heart or the many things I thought I had let go. See, there is a bigger picture and purpose for everything. And just because God doesn’t give us things when we want them and when we think we should receive them doesn’t mean He’s not looking out for our best interests. When God blesses us, He wants us to know and understand that it was nothing we’ve done to deserve it and it’s nothing we or anyone else can take glory for. We have to wait on the Lord and in all things be grateful because gratefulness attracts MORE. Therefore, embrace where you are now and give God praise. Staying humble is the key to thriving in an abundant and prosperous life.

Whenever I’m feeling discouraged, I listen to a song called “Reckless Love.” This song creates a vision of God coming after me no matter what I’ve done, no matter what I’ve thought, and no matter what I’ve said in the present or past, He keeps coming after me. And, guess what, He’s coming after you, too!

And I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.

THE POWER OF PRAISE: GOD’S PRESENCE

What do you do when you go through the storms of life?

Many of us have reached a turning point in our lives that have us feeling tired of being sick and tired. However, all crossroads bring us to a pivotal point, allowing us to decide on the path we will go down.

Have you ever faced difficult situations that made you cry out to God for peace?

When taking the wrong path, feeling lost, broken and disgusted we can sometimes feel as if God is not with us or for us. As a result, we allow these things to keep us from moving forward or finding trust in God.

Making the right decision by having a relationship with Christ gives us grace that covers us and allows us to encounter God’s presence in our lives. Just imagine not having to experience life’s trials and tribulations alone.

The truth is, everyone has an opportunity to experience the presence of God. It takes practice (worship) and exposure (attending church on the regular and reading the Word) which increase the conscious mind. His presence manifests and causes a shift in identity that creates an experience for us to go higher and deeper in Him. Because of this amazing feeling, we encounter joy, inner peace, surging energy, stronger faith, spiritual growth and a knowing that we serve a God of the impossible. We can then begin to see ourselves through the eyes of God. And as He peels away the scales from our eyes, He allows us to see inside the spiritual realm and experience the supernatural.

Have you ever done something that you thought was good to you but not good for you?

There was a time in my life when I thought that smoking marijuana was a high that I enjoyed. When I found myself enslaved to something that gave me a quick fixation, uncontrollable laughter, and an absence from my present being and troubles, I had to acknowledge that I had become an addict.

After many years of daily smoking, I reminded myself of how foolish I had become to think that marijuana was giving me a life of happiness, full of laughter and fun. Later, I began to sell it as if smoking it wasn’t enough.  When I realized the feelings of shame, guilt, resentment, and past hurts started to intensify, the enjoyment of being high was no longer present. However, when the laughter stopped, I also realized that my anxiety had worsened and getting high was spoiled by the effects of paranoia. The experience of being high no longer served its purpose, especially when the price of the barrier became greater than the price I was willing to pay.

Have you ever reached a point in your life where you were sick and tired?

Eventually, I got to a point in my life where I was sick and tired of being sick and tired of my crazy emotions. Then one day God reminded me of some things I had put in the back of my mind with the intent to never think of them again. He gave me visions that were as real as the person sitting next to you. Just knowing and seeing visions of a supernatural being standing over me in the middle of the night sounds creepy, but the feeling of being secured and protected by God meant everything. I knew without a doubt that there was a special calling and an anointing on my life that I cannot begin to explain. In my heart, I knew that God had more for me and I had a craving inside of me to want more of Him.

This hunger I experienced on the inside of me could only be filled with the Holy Spirit. No man could satisfy that hunger, no drug could satisfy that hunger, no money could satisfy that hunger, not my children, not my husband, not my job, not my business, NOTHING could fill that craving, only Jesus. And at that moment I accepted Jesus into my heart; I felt a high I cannot even put into words. This was a high that no one could give me, no one could buy, no one could take away, and no one could make me feel ashamed of……. His Glory! What an amazing feeling!! I truly don’t know where I would be today without His presence in my life. See, I can live without money, I can live without a job, but I cannot live without the presence of the Holy Spirit, and since He is all I need, I am going to praise and worship Him like never before! Because there is something about that name…. Jesus!

Have you ever invited the Holy Spirit into your heart?

In 2 Corinthians 4:10, it says, “Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” We need to be mindful of His presence inside of us, around us, and in our lives.

Will you allow God’s presence to unlock the potential, destiny, spiritual gifts and purpose He has placed inside of you?

The Power of Thoughts: I Believe I Can Soar

If you had to be reincarnated into any animal of your choice, which would you choose?

Choosing the well-known Bald Eagle, the national bird of the United States would be a very wise choice. The bald eagle is known for its strength, courage, vision, fearlessness, high flying capabilities, large wings for soaring and for never surrendering to the size or strength of its prey. They can spot their prey from two miles away. They will also fight to regain territory and can be gentle, attentive and care fiercely for their young ones.

Eagles can soar above the raging storms and gushing winds with the storm pushing them to soar higher and higher. Although the storms carry the eagles higher to soar, they actually enjoy the turbulence of a severe thunderstorm.

However, for humans, the turbulence isn’t that appealing. When raging storms and gushing winds called “adversity” hit and life begins to happen, we run for shelter and pray for the turbulence to cease. In many cases, we begin to shut down and hinder our process instead of taking the approach of an eagle. We must not be afraid, but just in case you’re still a bit fretful, just in case you’re still not convinced, let’s take a look at the Bible because according to Isaiah 40, verse 31, “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like “eagles;” they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (ESV).

There’s a good possibility that we have all faced many storms in our lives or many desperate situations that left us feeling hopeless when we didn’t hear the voice of God or feel His tangible presence during a storm. But, His Word remains and won’t return to Him void. So, even with the rough patches in life, when you wait on Him, He (not you) shall renew your strength. To me, that means although we will go through trials, when the storm passes, we will rise like eagles and soar! The storm can’t last forever, and it was never meant to hurt you. So, hold on because those storms are never for us to lose faith, be hindered in any way, or throw in the towel. The storm is meant to drive you closer to God, your purpose, your spiritual growth, shape your character and drive you to new levels of faith in Christ.

I truly believe the moment you accept the fact that you are going to face heartaches, disappointments, storms and many, many more adversities, the faster you will be able to pick up the broken pieces, and the sooner you’ll begin to soar.

And with that in mind, each passing day should bring you excitement with not just knowing but also believing in the potential of substantial peace that takes you higher and higher until you feel the energy and strength to spread your wings and soar to the highest mountain top!

Leap Out on Faith

Life is filled with many opportunities for decision-making and an infinite amount of choices for life’s journey. However, the wrong decision can greatly impact our future decision-making, especially if we do not choose to have faith. We have the choice to select faith over doubt, fear, worries, obstacles, and circumstances in our lives, but only when we choose to live by God’s values, not the world’s. At times, we allow fear to step in the way of what God has planned for us. To me, leaping out on faith means to trust God with every circumstance and situation, regardless of what it looks like or what others say. If God says that a small mustard seed of faith can move mountains, then who can say otherwise? Matthew 17: 20 (NIV) says, “He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you!”

Faith vs. Fear

We have to remember that fear comes from the enemy, who is the deceiver, corrupter, accuser, and devourer, and it’s the opposite of faith. Fear is a spirit of fearfulness and timidity that does not come from God. On the contrary, faith is trusting God with everything, even we don’t see anything happening or moving in our lives. According to one online search (Wikipedia), fear in human beings may occur in response to a specific stimulus occurring in the present, or in anticipation or expectation of a future threat perceived as a risk to body or life. On a personal note, one of my fears was having the feeling of doing everything alone. One day, my power partner, Shay, set up an adventure experience. We bravely and confidently made the courageous decision to explore and challenge ourselves, to take a journey to Terrapin Adventures. The activities were engaging, challenging, incredible, fun, and scary. Honestly, the adrenaline rush was the most amazing experience, but was the adrenaline rush enough for me to conquer my fears? After climbing and reaching the top of the telephone pole, during our outdoor adventure, I realized just how far “down” was in relation to where I was standing. The more I thought about taking the jump, the more I tried to talk myself out of it. The more I tried to talk myself out of it, the more fear, anxiety, doubt, and overthinking caused me to change my mind about jumping. I was now facing a dilemma: being stuck and unable to move forward. My only options were to jump and have the process over in less than five seconds or take the long way and climb all the way back down to the ground. I took the second option and quickly realized that climbing down was worse than climbing up. For several days after this adventure, I experienced many side effects to include pain, large purple and black bruises, loss of energy, soreness, stiffness, and leg buckling. Is this what it’s like when we choose fear over trust in God, ultimately declining to step out on faith? Did God want to use this natural experience to provide understanding spiritually; is this symbolic of how we circle around the mountain of our fears again and again when God is asking us to move forward? Was my mindset on my own ability or God’s? In the natural, I was protected by the gear that I was wearing; but, did I trust God in the spiritual sense? He’s my protection, too. Did I trust the gear more than I trusted Him? Take a moment for self-reflection. Where is your faith today? Who or what is your faith and trust in, more than God? How long will you go around the mountain, holding onto idols, un-forgiveness, deceitfulness, and mindsets that hinder you from stepping out on faith and believing that all things are possible through Christ? In Matthew 19:26, the Bible says, “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. If Jesus said it, why is it so hard for us to trust Him at His Word? I’ve learned that stepping out on faith gives us the power to change, be free and most importantly, trust God, even when we’re not seeing change. I may not have jumped, but I kept going and completed the rest of the mission and did not give up, even after I caused myself unnecessary pain.

Why does the Bible convince us to believe against what we see with our natural eye?

We believe there’s a God and for many of us, we can feel God. Even the Bible tells us to have faith when we don’t see the evidence of what we ask for, but isn’t “nature” alone evidence enough? When we get saved, we receive the Holy Spirit, which we cannot see, so what causes us to lose focus and faith in Him when we ask for material things or even blessings? Paying too much attention to things in the natural. We cannot focus on circumstances, problems, needs, nor the impossibilities we face because it leaves absolutely no space for faith. We need to get to the point of “seeing,” believing, and trusting God in all of His amazing complexity, diversity, and awesome beauty. I have learned (Sound faith): “when we have supernatural eye sight, we can take hold of God’s promise as a present reality, even though you may not see or perceive them with your natural sense.” One of the biggest things about our God: He is faithful!

In the article called “Love Worth Finding Ministries” it says, “If ever we needed an earth-shaking, mountain-moving, devil-defying, sin-destroying, revival-bringing FAITH, this is the time, this is the age, this is the hour.  We need not only to possess a faith; we need to have a faith that possesses us.”

The Power of Expectation

In life, we will experience things that have the ability to keep us from reaching our short or long-term goals. Unexpected situations may arise leaving us physically, mentally, and emotionally numb due to our trials, challenges, hardships, and disappointments. I have learned: any time there is a mutual dependency, expectations exist, and if those expectations are not met, conflict can occur. We have all experienced some sort of hurt or pain that may have forced us to stop expecting something great for our lives. But, don’t let these events cause you to lose your expectation for what God has for your future! Expectations are a form of focus, just as intentions are, but many times, expectations come from what we’re used to, or our own personality traits. Have you ever heard the saying, “You generally get what you expect”? There are no limits to what you can imagine, what you can desire, what you can dream, and what you can expect from God. He is ready to take us into another dimension! Where is your faith and hope to build your expectation? The key formula for “Expectation” is Faith + Hope + Expectation = Miracles.

Throughout the Bible, there are stories of many extraordinary, miraculous events performed by Jesus.

List of Miracles Jesus performed:

  1. Calming the storm — Luke 8
  2. Water into wine — John 2
  3. Feeding 5,000 — Mark 6
  4. Walking on water — John 6

Healing of Individuals:

  1. Woman with the issue of blood for twelve years — Matthew 9
  2. Man at the pool of Bethesda — John 5
  3. Man born blind — John 9
  4. Man with leprosy — Mark 1
  5. Man possessed with devils — Mark 5
  6. Lazarus raised from the dead — John 11

Shouldn’t these healings and miracles of Jesus, here on earth, increase our faith to the position of expectancy?

 Despite the miracles and healings, the disciples had seen Jesus perform, they still struggled with doubting Him. However, those that sought-after Jesus for deliverance, healing, and miracles came with faith and expectation and received their healing and miracles immediately. According to Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” God wants to be good to you, but you must be expecting Him to move in your life. Don’t rely on physical evidence. Look to God, having faith; trust Him. Your expectation is vital to your experience in life. I don’t know what you are believing God for, but the timing is now! In an article I’ve read, “What’s the real meaning of God Preparing a Table before My Enemy,” Psalms 23 is broken down. This shows us that God is more than enough and He has already laid the foundation for us!

The Lord is my Shepherd = That’s relationship.

I shall not want = That’s supply.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures = That’s rest.

He leadeth me beside still waters = That’s refreshment.

He restoreth my soul = That’s healing.

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness = That’s guidance.

For His name’s sake = That’s purpose.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death = That’s testing.

I will fear no evil = That’s protection.

For Thou art with me = That’s faithfulness.

Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me = That’s discipline.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies = That’s hope.

Thou anointest my head with oil = That’s consecration.

My cup runneth over = That’s abundance.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life = That’s blessing.

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord = That’s security.

Forever = That’s Eternity.

Whatever challenges you the most, decide now that you are going to set your mind for total victory. That means, no matter what obstacle you may face, you will stay in the position of expectancy! I have learned that prayer is the way in which we communicate with God, and receive His plan for our lives! If you believe and have faith in Him, then all things are possible for you! Through man, it’s impossible, but through Christ, ALL things are possible! We must stand on the promises of God. In Hebrews 6:13-15, it says, “When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, ‘I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.’ And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.” He is a God that cannot lie. Therefore, the question becomes, “what’s holding Him back from blessing you”? Could you be lacking faith in Him and His Word, or could it be a legal situation resisting our prayers in the spiritual realm (read the Book of Daniel, Chapter 10)? We need to ask God to change our way of thinking, renew our minds, give us sense of direction, and renewed energy. Let your growing faith push you into expectation and cause you to take a fresh look at your life’s purpose. Let your expectations be so BIG that only God can turn them into reality!

PEACE BE STILL

I encourage you today to take a moment to pray and intercede on behalf of the victims of this horrible and destruction storm that’s taken place in the state of Texas because of Hurricane Harvey. We need the church and community, to pray for the families that have been affected by this devastating storm. Also pray for the safety and strength of the emergency volunteer and personnel workers. We pray for restoration, and that God will cover every city, county and community with His divine protection, mercy and grace.

In Matthew 25, KJV, Jesus said to His disciples, “For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

This is a time that calls for a spirit of unity. Let’s join with people of faith as we pray together to provide whatever assistance possible to bring relief to lives have been greatly disrupted. Let us stand together in this time of need!
